• Playdough

    Ingredients:

    2 cup plain flour
    1 cup salt
    1 tbs oil
    1 cup cold water
    2 drops liquid food colouring

    Method:

STEP 1 Combine plain flour and salt
STEP 2 Add water, food colouring and oil. Mix until ingredients are combined.
    STEP 3 Knead well.
STEP 4 If consistency is too wet add a little plain flour.

    Notes:
This is a quick and easy recipe that kids can help make as well as play with. I have changed the ingredients to show ½ to 1 cup of water as many have required much more flour to get the right consistency.

  •  Fantasy Island

    Dear Parents,

We have recently begun a Social Studies unit on Physical Geography and we need your help. Each student is going to make a Fantasy Island salt dough map. Your child will need to have a 12”X 18” board cut from thin plywood or heavy cardboard to use as a base for his/her map. We will need these in school by Tuesday, September 5th.

On Thursday, September 7th, your child will need to bring in a baggie of salt dough to class. Please mix this recipe at home and send it to school with your child. I’m sure your child will love to help you measure the ingredients and mix the dough.

    Recipe:

    4 cups of flour

    1 cup of salt

1-1 ½ cups hot water (from the tap)

    2 teaspoons vegetable oil (optional)

Mix the salt and flour together, then gradually add the water until the dough becomes elastic. Some recipes call for 2 tsp. of veg. oil at this point. If mixture is too sticky, simply add more flour. If it is too crumbly, add more water. Knead the dough until it is a good consistency.

You can make different colored dough by mixing in food coloring and kneading it through.

Store the dough in a sealed container or freezer bag.
