Instruction at The Campus Laboratory School is careful, considerate, and planned with care to build a strong academic foundation. We provide structure, opportunity, and purposefully designed scaffolded learning experiences with the goal of challenging all students upward. Instructional methods facilitate individual learning in a way that is respectful of a child’s development, learning style, strengths, and weaknesses. aculty use multiple strategies in order to meet the needs of all children. Child-centered instructional strategies include direct instruction, indirect instruction, interactive learning, self-directed independent study, and experiential learning.
The youngest students are given ample opportunities for exploration and practice with hands-on materials. As students progress through levels, differentiated instruction allows for attainment of individual, content area, and grade level goals. Content material is present in different formats and put in realistic context to boost interest. Students are actively engaged and learning occurs in a more natural and sustainable manner. There is a natural flow of instruction, discussion, and application of knowledge.
Blending of the methods and strategies allows for all students to have a maximum opportunity for learning. Lessons are structured to reinforce content and skills logically; with interventions built in based on formative assessment of and observation of student engagement and mastery of content.
